From bankrupt single mum to a six-figure cleaning business: How Janet Nash turned things around

 

Janet was a stay-at-home mum when in 2011 her husband left, leaving behind £10,000 of debt.

 

Unsure how to make ends meet, she set up her own cleaning business. 'Prior to that I had worked in recruitment,' she told FEMAIL.

 

'I choose cleaning because it required very little start-up investment and it was something I felt I could manage around my children.  Plus, I always found cleaning my own home to be really therapeutic. 

 

'Domestic cleaning charging £15 per hour just didn't work, by the time I had paid the cleaners, paid petrol, insurances, equipment and bought chemicals, I just couldn't survive. 

 

'I had plenty of clients but the margins were just to low and it wasn't consistent'.  

 

 After declaring herself bankrupt, she later set up another business, which specialised in Bio-Hazard cleaning.
